Tea For Two
(Vincent Youmans, Irving Caesar; 1924)
Caesar worked
on the assembly line at the Ford Motor plant in New York. One day
George Gershwin visited him and they were so busy discussing song
ideas that Caesar missed 10 rear axles and was shifted to the clerk's
desk where he would do less damage!
Tea For Two
is one of the most performed songs of all time. It has been recorded
hundreds of times and translated into dozens of languages.
Caesar &
Gershwin used to sneak into concerts at Carnegie Hall.
Youmans, Caesar
and other musical friends used to meet at noon at Tin Pan Alley. Tea
For Two grew out of those musical lunch meetings.
